The primary difference between the data
directory and the DAOS repository in typical environments is that the I/O
traffic volume to the DAOS repository is much lower than the what the data
directory sees. If that aspect facilitates making different hardware
device choices for the data, you can take advantage of that. The
combined traffic should be less than an equivalent environment that does
not have DAOS enabled, as DAOS will eliminate the writes for attachments
that already exist in the repository.
As far as redundancy goes, if you lose
access to the NLO files, you have lost access to at least some of your
attachment data. If you are serious enough to use RAID on the data
directory...you may want to stick with that for the DAOS repository also.
There's no change between 8.5.x and
9.x that would add a requirement for separate controllers. The basic
operation is the same between the two codestreams.
